The seven heroes who were awarded the highest civilian honor in the war of 1971, one of them is Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sepoy Hamidur Rahman. He was born on February 2, 1953 in Khorda Khalishpur village under Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district. On 2 February 1971, he joined the army as a soldier.
He was martyred in an encounter with the Pakistani army, which was attacked in Dhalai border patrol of tea garden in Kamalganj district of Moulvibazar district in late October 1971. In this war, he entered the Pakistani army area and started attacking. In spite of defeating the enemies, a Pakistani army bullet came to his body and became martyred there. At that time Birshreshtha Sepoy Hamidur Rahman was buried in the village of Amavasa in Kamalpur district under Tripura of neighboring India. Later, his remains were brought back home and buried in Shaheed intellectual graveyard in Dhaka. A memorial was built to remember his memory at Madhabpur Union of Kamalganj upazila.
